Washington (ChatterShmatter) - Researchers have found that vitamin D is actually disappearing from commonly followed American diets.

Researchers looked at data from two groups, with it all coming from the Third National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey.

The first group was of around 19,000 people from 1988 to 1994, while the second was of 13,000 between 2001 and 2004.

Researchers were led by Dr. Adit Ginde of the University of Colorado Denver School of Medicine, and focused on vitamin D in American diets.

They found that over time, vitamin D is disappearing in American diets.

The average vitamin D levels dropped from 30 nanograms per milliliter to 24 nanograms per milliliter over the span of the two groups, with only 23% reaching the optimal level of 30 nanograms per milliliter daily, compared to 45% in the first group.

The study has been published in the Arhives of Internal Medicine.
